Best Analytics & monitoring

Product analytics, errors and uptime for shipped apps.

“Analytics” covers four different jobs: traffic stats for your pages, product analytics on what users do inside the app, error tracking, and uptime checks. A typical shipped app ends up with one tool for traffic or product analytics plus one for errors. How to choose

How to choose analytics & monitoring

Traffic stats without a cookie banner

Umami Cloud is free forever for 100K events a month on one website, and the MIT-licensed app can be self-hosted. Plausible has no free cloud tier (30-day trial, then from $9/mo) but its AGPL edition is free to self-host. Fathom starts at $15/mo for 100K pageviews with no free plan, Simple Analytics is free for hobby sites with a badge, and Vercel Web Analytics includes 50,000 events a month on Vercel’s Hobby plan. Google Analytics 4 is free but usually needs a consent banner; it fits apps that run Google Ads or need BigQuery. Rybbit (77) is a newer open-source, cookieless option with no free cloud plan (7-day trial, Standard from $13/mo billed annually for 100K pageviews) that adds web vitals and error tracking, plus session replays on Pro from $26/mo billed annually. Cloudflare Web Analytics (75) is free with no event limit: one snippet on any host, or a one-click toggle on Cloudflare Pages, plus real-user Core Web Vitals, but no custom events or UTM tracking yet.

Product analytics, replays and flags

PostHog ranks highest at 91 because one free tier covers 1M analytics events, 5K session replays, 1M feature-flag requests and 100K error exceptions each month, with no credit card. That replaces three separate vendors for most early apps. OpenPanel (78) is a lighter open-source alternative (AGPL-3.0) with funnels, retention, profiles and session replay, cookie-less by default and priced only by events with unlimited sites: no free cloud plan, but a 30-day trial, then $20/mo for 100K events, or free to self-host.

Errors and uptime

Sentry’s Developer plan is free forever for one user and covers error monitoring and tracing, with Team from $26/mo billed annually. Better Stack is free for personal projects with 10 monitors and a status page, so you hear about downtime before your users do.
