How they differ

Supabase Auth (85) comes bundled with a Supabase Postgres project: users live in your own database, and row-level security policies use the signed-in user directly, so it is the natural pick when Supabase is already your backend. Auth0 (70) is standalone hosted auth from Okta that works with any backend, with a Universal Login page, Organizations, enterprise connections and a long list of compliance features, priced per monthly active user (MAU) once you leave the free plan.

What you pay for users

Supabase Free includes 50,000 MAU, but free projects pause after 1 week of inactivity and you get 2 active projects. Pro is from $25/mo with 100,000 MAU included, then $0.00325 per MAU, and paid projects are not paused. Auth0 Free covers up to 25,000 MAU. Its paid plans are priced by MAU tier: B2C Essentials is $35/mo and Professional $240/mo at 500 MAU, and on Auth0’s own calculator (checked Oct 17, 2026) B2C Essentials was $700/mo at 10,000 MAU and $2,100/mo at 30,000, with larger volumes quoted by sales.

The math by volume

At 10,000 MAU both can be free (Supabase Free, if the project stays active, and Auth0 Free). At 40,000 MAU Supabase Free still covers you, while Auth0 is past its 25,000 free limit and past the 30,000 MAU where its calculator stops showing self-serve prices. At 100,000 MAU Supabase Pro is $25/mo for auth (plus whatever database compute you use), and Auth0 is a sales quote.

MFA, SSO and enterprise features

Supabase includes basic (TOTP) MFA on every plan; phone MFA is $75/mo for the first project and $10/mo per extra project on Pro. SAML 2.0 single sign-on is not on Free; on Pro it includes 50 SSO users, then $0.015 per SSO MAU. Auth0 Free includes 1 enterprise connection, self-service SSO and SCIM, but paid B2C plans drop them (Auth0 says to upgrade to B2B to keep them), and Pro MFA starts with Essentials. If enterprise SSO for many business customers is the main need, Auth0’s B2B plans or WorkOS fit better than either free tier.

Which to pick

Pick Supabase Auth if your app already runs on Supabase or Postgres, you want users in your own database, or you expect tens of thousands of users on a small budget. Pick Auth0 if you need auth that is independent of your database, deep enterprise and compliance features, or your company already uses Okta, and you can live with per-MAU pricing after 25,000 users.

Who wins: Supabase Auth or Auth0?

By score, Supabase Auth wins Supabase Auth vs Auth0 at 85/100 vs 70/100. Supabase Auth: The most generous managed free tier in auth (50K MAU) and the default for Lovable/Bolt-style apps, with users living in your own Postgres. Fewer drop-in UI components than Clerk, and best when you're already on Supabase. Auth0: Proven and enterprise-ready with a solid free tier. Paid tiers get expensive fast and DX feels heavier. Supabase Auth is best for Apps already on Supabase, or vibe-coded apps from Lovable and Bolt that need sign-in tied to row-level security. Auth0 is best for Enterprise identity requirements and compliance.

Is Supabase Auth cheaper than Auth0?
Almost always. Supabase Free includes 50,000 MAU and Pro is from $25/mo with 100,000 MAU included, then $0.00325 per MAU. Auth0 is free up to 25,000 MAU, but its paid B2C Essentials plan was $700/mo at 10,000 MAU on Auth0’s calculator.
Can I use Supabase Auth without the Supabase database?
Supabase Auth runs inside a Supabase project and stores users in that project’s Postgres database, so you always get the database with it. You can still call your own APIs and verify Supabase JWTs elsewhere.
