How they differ

Both are open-source backends built on Postgres with auth, file storage and functions in one project, and both can be self-hosted. Supabase gives you a REST API, client libraries and row-level security, and it is the backend Lovable, Bolt and v0 integrate with. Nhost puts a Hasura GraphQL API with realtime subscriptions on top of Postgres, and adds Nhost Run for your own containers.

Free plans

Supabase Free allows 2 projects with a 500 MB database, 1 GB storage and 50K monthly active users. Nhost Starter allows 1 project with a 1 GB database, 1 GB storage, 5 GB egress and unlimited users. Free projects pause after a week of inactivity on both.

First paid plan

Both Pro plans start at $25 a month. Supabase Pro includes a $10 compute credit; Nhost Pro includes $15 in compute credits, a 10 GB database (then $0.20/GB), 50 GB storage, 50 GB egress and 7 days of daily backups. Nhost Team starts at $599 a month for SOC 2 and an SLA.

Which to pick

Supabase for most vibe-coded apps, because AI app builders and coding agents wire it up by default and the community is far larger. Nhost if you want GraphQL with realtime subscriptions out of the box, or unlimited users on the free plan.

Who wins: Supabase or Nhost?

By score, Supabase wins Supabase vs Nhost at 93/100 vs 76/100. Supabase: The best fit for AI builders: Postgres, auth and storage in one, a generous free tier, open source and deep builder integrations. Nhost: A complete open-source backend (Postgres, GraphQL, auth, storage, functions) with unlimited users on every plan and a self-host option, about 9.4k GitHub stars. AI app builders and coding agents default to Supabase far more often, and GraphQL is one more thing to learn, so it scores below Supabase and Appwrite. Supabase is best for Default backend for vibe-coded apps (Lovable, Bolt, v0 integrations). Nhost is best for Builders who want a Supabase-style all-in-one Postgres backend but prefer a GraphQL API.
